With multiple millions of people on
the internet, have you ever wordered how it works?
Everyone
is hooked together. Everyone has a unique address for their computer
or phone (or any device on web) called an "IP" (internet protocol)
address. In 2010 all available addresses were used up and new ones
were created. Now there are over 320 quenta trillion, trillion
addresses available.
Computers aren't good with names.... but they are great with
numbers.
A
computer called a Domain Name Server (DNS) looks up the name (like:
waltergrady.com) and tells the computer that wants the information
the number (or IP address). If you want to know your IP address,
type "what is my IP" in your web browser search bar. You'll get it
right away.
As the web became graphics oriented web sites were designed with
a programing language called "HyperText Markup Language" or HTML.
That's why web pages have an .htm or .html extension.
It's important to remember that everything you see on the internet is the result of programming... It was designed by someone!
Just because the page says, "If you don't want to buy this... click here." it doesn't mean that's what will happen. The "x" in the upper right corner is safe (most of the time!).
No!
