Computer Slowdown-Hardware

Overheating/Cold

Computer components generate heat during operation. If the case lacks a sufficient cooling computer parts could burn themselves out. Under rare circumstances, when the electrical system is damaged, the computer could become a fire hazard. Dirt and Dust in the CPU cooling fan can cause serious problems.

Dirty fans and heat sinks are a big problem. As the temperature of components rise because of lack of ventalation they slow down and often cause your compute to turn off.

Disconnect power from your computer and open the case. Vaccuum all the dust and dirt you can. Use a can of air to blow out the CPU fan and the fans on the power supply.

Leave the case open and start the computer. Make sure all the fans are working.

Insufficient Memory

Random access memory (RAM) helps the central processing unit (CPU) by storing instructions and information. Without enough RAM these instructions are moved back and forth between the Hard Dive and Memory- a process which is very slow compaired to memory operations.

If RAM has a problem and looses information system crashes will occure.

Hit <alt><control><del> and look at you task manager. I will show you how much memory your computer has and how much of it is currently in use.

Memory is easy to install but there are many different kinds (DDR, DDR2, DDR3) and memory speeds.
Check with a local computer tech and he will help you find the right memory for your computer.

Bad Hard Drive Sectors

Over the course of a hard drive's life, parts of the hard drive begin to fail. Mechanical problems are possible, but the hidden threats are bad sectors. Data stored in bad sectors can become corrupted and can cause problems with data and settings throughout the computer.

The hard drive on a computer WILL FAIL! Be sure to make backups of you data (pictures and documents) to an external zip drive or a CD.
